Song Of The Week: Addicted to Love

Last week, Aves and I were watching TV and saw the promo above for The Good Wife and were instantly drawn to the song in the background.  It took no longer than 7 seconds for me to realize it was Florence + The Machine behind this awesome Robert Palmer cover of "Addicted to Love"

I love the original but have to say this remake is dark, sexy and raw and I just LOVE it!  Also, after watching this promo it makes me really want to check out this show (like my girl Jamie).  Then after watching Julianna Margulies win best actress for her role in The Good Wife at last nights Emmy awards, I want to watch even more!  Have any of you watched?  What do you think?  Worth adding to my Netflix (soon to be Qwikster) queue of 450?

Song Of The Week: Double Trouble

Woo-hoo for Tuesday!  I hope ya'll had a marvelous labor day weekend full of sun and fun!  I just adore long weekends and love the feeling of waking up Sunday morning knowing I get another day just like today.

If you watch American Idol like I do, you probably occasionally wonder what in the world ever happened to super talented contest (fill in the blank).  Well today when I was researching more about the band Jack and White (not to be confused with Jack White) I learned that the band is composed of  Jack Matranga and AI season 7 alumni Brooke White

I remember watching her season and thinking she was quite talented on her show and am loving her latest collaboration with Jack on the song "Double Trouble".  Their sound is similar to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and since Labor Day is officially past us now, and our summer weeks remaining is down to 2.5 weeks, I am wanting to soak in as many summer sounds that I can, and "Double Trouble" is most definitely a new summer song to add to my mix.

I'm Lovin' It

I opened the cupboard in our kitchen at work and noticed this AWESOME mug staring back at me and I just smiled so big.  I have been trying to figure out who the owner is so I can give them a big hug.  It has had all of us gals giggling this week, and for that I love it.

Have Mercy!

I would do just about anything to call this my bathroom.  The pop of yellow, the bright white and light = right up my alley.

My iPad will be taking its first flight on a plane this Sunday and I am thinking I really wish I owned this Vivienne Westwood Derby tartan leather iPad case.  Love that it's pink and leather.

I have been house sitting for my boss this past week at his gorgeous house on a walk street in Venice and have been loving the evening walks with B down the boardwalk to enjoy a beer at the Venice Ale House and the Waterfront Cafe all while enjoying the sunset.

My thoughtful and sweet coworker left me these lovely and fragrant roses on my desk Tuesday morning with a note that read, "Congrats on your promotion! Very well deserved".  Instantly brightened my mood.

I purchased  My Private Jet back in the end of February and just got around to painting them this past Sunday and loved the results!  It lasted almost without a chip for 4 days and really sparkled in the sunshine.

This picture is really accurate of how it turns out and shines.  The color will soon be added to my must always have a bottle of collection.

And now I need your help, should I repaint my nails My Private Jet for San Francisco or go bright and bolder for my weekend?  I am on the fence - any polish color that I should absolutely pick for the trip?

Girl Crush ~ Blake Lively

{click photos to enlarge}

Am I the only one out there who has a major girl crush on Blake Lively?  Ever since she first appeared on Gossip Girl I have been blown away by her beauty, smile and fashion.  I constantly see photos of her smiling or laughing which leads me to believe that she is a sweet and personable gal off set and in real life.

Her red carpet fashion has put her on a few of the best dressed lists and who can blame the critics.  The girl has a killer body and wears clothes so well!  Perhaps that is why she was signed as the new face of Chanel...Her fashion choices are always a little edgy, straight off the runway and yet she gets it right almost every time.  Can we also just agree that she has the red carpet pose down to a T?

Whether she is smiling, smirking or pouting her makeup and hair is always flawless. Never overdone, and always breathtaking - her features in magazines always have me buying the mag to check out the spread.  Blake is a little bit California Girl, Bohemian Goddess and old Hollywood glamour.

Can we also please address her ridiculously incredible wardrobe on Gossip Girl?  I mean Serena's character can drive me a little batty sometimes but her fashion always has me swooning. I love the dynamic between Serena and Blair and am always looking forward to what love triangle Serena will get herself into next and what fabulous designer she'll be wearing next.  Not since Sex and the City have I coveted a characters wardrobe as much.

Blake's most recent role as Krista, Jeremy Renner's drug addicted sister in The Town earned her some well deserved attention and is sure to help her become a staple in Hollywood.  I for one cannot wait to see what else this beauty has up her sleeves, and most importantly, who designed those sleeves...

Fall 2011 RTW Collections - WWRZD Edition

Who else is super excited about Oscar fashions on Sunday? I have to say that my favorite episodes of The Rachel Zoe Project is her securing dresses for her celebs for award season!  Talk about stress and excitement.

Will Fashion Week wrapping up last week in NYC and still happening over in London, I thought I would take a stab at Rachel Zoe's profession and try and dress all the best actress and best supporting actress nominees for Sunday.  I in no way shape or form even try and compare my selections with the uber talented Zoe, but below you will find my own version of What Would Rachel Zoe Do (WWRZD)....

{click to enlarge all pictures from NY Mag}

I love Amy Adams and think she would look stunning in navy blue Naeem Khan or a sparkling goddess in Pamela Roland.

I am hoping Annette Bening puts a little more effort into her hair this awards season.  Regardless, she would look magnificent in this Diane Von Furstenberg gown.

Sweet little Hailee Steinfeld was difficult, as she is only 14, so I wouldn't want to age her in any of the gowns but also need to steer clear of cleavage and sexiness.  I think the Monique Lhuillier is angelic and the Badgley Mischka would look radiant against her gorgeous hair.

Helena Bonham-Carter is funky and interesting with all of her selections and as much as I would love to see her in something like the Badgley Mischka gown (feathers make it funky), I think she will veer more towards the style of this Marchesa gown which I think would suit her perfectly.

I don't know much about Jacki Weaver, but I think this Ralph Lauren dress is the perfect shade for her coloring and also a flattering fit for her figure.

My recent girl crush Jennifer Lawrence wowed me at the Golden Globes in that bright pink number, and I think she would absolutely shut.it.down in this teal John Richmond gown.  She would just glow!

I love Melissa Leo and have a feeling she will be taking home the statue, so she needs to dazzle and this Oscar de la Renta will do just that.

Her Valentino daisy number for the Golden Globes was all wrong and I am left hoping Michelle Williams will go either bright and sparkly or sexy and sparkly.  Either dress will flatter her pixie cut.

Red is the perfect color for Natalie the sure winner for Best Actress on Sunday.  This gown will accentuate her growing bump and standout when she is accepting her Oscar.

Is it just me or has Nicole Kidman been a lot more personable on the red carpet lately?  I am leaning towards the Naeem Khan dress, but either would make her look statuesque on Sunday.

Anne Hathaway has a great job hosting the awards and will no doubt be sporting numerous gowns through the telecast.  I am crossing my fingers this Oscar de la Renta is one of them!

She isn't nominated but always kills it on the red carpet at any awards show.  I want this new mama to be to walk down the carpet in this show stopping Marchesa.  Stunning.

What celebs are you most excited to see on the red carpet?  Do you think my picks will land my celebs on the best dressed or answering to Joan Rivers and the Fashion Police?  What was your favorite Fall 2011 RTW show?

Ciao luvies!

Desperately Seeking Sully ~ Holiday Movies

Is anyone else is utter disbelief that Christmas is just ten days away?! What in the world! It has snuck up so fast and I have barely even started my holiday shopping.  The only thing I have started this holiday season is watching my favorite holiday movies.  My list includes:

Oh my gosh, I am so in love with this movie!  Love Actually is a movie that I can watch anytime of the year, but is especially special to me at Christmastime.  Perhaps it is Bill Nighy singing "Christmas Is All Around", Hugh Grant dancing or Colin Firth's incredibly romantic story line, I am just head over heels for it.  It was the first holiday flick I watched this season.

I remember being 10 years old and getting to go to a special screening of this movie and thinking that Kevin McCallister was so cool and quite a genius.  The gals and I watched Home Alone this past weekend and still laughed a lot, quoted almost the entire movie and then argued that many of the injuries the "Wet Bandits" received could have easily killed them.  Still so enjoyable!

Will Ferrel in tights dressed as an Elf (Infinifilm Edition).  Could this movie be any funnier.  I just adore Zooey Deschanel in this movie (although she looks so different with blonde hair) and really love the message this movie spreads.  Plus who hasn't quoted Will, "SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA'S COMING! I KNOW HIM! I KNOW HIM!" Kills me every time.

Another movie that reminds me of my childhood, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (Special Edition).  Whether it was the fiasco with the Christmas lights on the house, the cat food in the jello, or Clark's boss tied up in a big red bow, this is another movie I cannot get enough of.  In fact I think I will be watching this movie tonight.

White Christmas (Anniversary Edition) is another of one my favorite holiday films thanks to my Mom.  We always had a tradition of watching this movie the day after Thanksgiving with hot apple cider.  We would sing along to all of the songs and comment about how tiny Vera-Ellen was.  Full of amazing dance routines and one of the best songs ever - "Sisters".  This is a classic that everyone really should watch.

I remember when Bad Santa came out I wasn't quite sure what I thought of this film.  Once I saw it, I realized I quite enjoyed it.  It is so inappropriate and yet somehow it really has a great holiday spirit to it in the end.  If you like dry humor and raunchy comedies, I would tell you to give this film a shot, Billy Bob was excellent in it and even nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor.

Last night I watched Christmas Cupid, ABC Family's modern spin on A Christmas Carol.  Now it was totally cheesy and everything you would expect from a made for TV holiday movie, but I gotta admit I found it rather entertaining.

What are your favorite holiday movies?  What movie do you watch every year without fail?  What movie do you hate?

Ho, Ho, Ho!

I'm Lovin' It

The packaging of all the Honore des Pres perfumes.  I am head over heels in love with the Vamp A NY scent and have included it in my Holiday Wishlist.  The scent is a little bit sweetart meets a little bit spicy.  Pure goodness really.

These Loeffler Randall Back Zip Rubber Rain Boots.  I love the color and really love the edgy zipper in the back.  They are also slightly more affordable than the leather pair I have been eyeing.

Those crazy ass bizzos over on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.  I have my favorites (Lisa for sure) and then there are those that are just wacky (Taylor and Camille).  I am loving that they let us into their lives.

These beautiful, sparkly, ultra lovely frocks from Elie Saab's Spring 2011 RTW Collection.  Oh what I wouldn't do to one of those dresses.

Enjoying the Starbucks Christmas Blend in my "Red Cup" as I continue to wade through The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Cranberry Bliss Bars are back.  Trouble.  Trouble. Trouble.

Forever Frugal Friday

I was at work bright and early this morning (7 AM) for our quarterly board meeting.  We tend to dress a little fancier in the office on the days these meetings are being held and I couldn't help but think how perfect this Brush Dotted Dress would have been.  It's a little bit Mad Men and a whole lot of cute.  I may just have to pick this one up and save it for our February meeting.

Happy {Halloween} Weekend!

For the first time ever, we were allowed to dress up at work.  I luckily had this old dress I bought for a party years ago that was "work appropriate" (versus slutty *fill in the blank*) and decided to try for Betty Draper.

I also thought it might be fun to zombify myself after seeing Kris' version.

Although it is not my most favorite holiday, today has been quite a lot of fun, and eating all the delish treats hasn't been so bad either.

Hope you have an eventful Halloween with lots of treats and no tricks!

Desperately Seeking Sully ~ Scary Movies

With Halloween just around the corner, I have been craving scary movies.  I just want to jump, or scream with terror.  Everyone has their own tolerance and requirements to make a movie scary, I usually end up laughing (My Bloody Valentine) at the absurdity of it all.  However, I have found some movies that regardless of how many times I have seen them, still scare me and make me tremble.  Below are some of my faves.

Hate Spiders.  Enough said.  The shower scene in this movie literally makes me gag.  I have noticed a lot of huge spiders around my neighborhood lately and I don't like it one bit.  I cannot watch this film again because it makes me feel like I have spiders crawling all over me.  Blech.

This is going to sound funny but the first thing I think of when I see the movie Carrie is my BF Mrs. R who always explains when she spells her name, "Carrie, like the horror film".  Then I think of how disturbing this film was for me and how I cringe at the opening scene alone.  Poor girl.  Stephen King sure knows how to write them.

I randomly caught Jeepers Creepers one night on HBO and thought it was going to be really, really dumb.  And while it didn't win any Oscars, this film did scare and creep me out a lot.  The villain/bad guy whatever you want to call him, is REALLY gross.

Even though I wouldn't really classify No Country for Old Men as a horror film, Javier Bardem is straight up frightening in this movie.  I just recently watched it with my roomie and we both were disgusted but Anton.  His weapon of choice, his voice, the coin, his haircut...I would really not like to cross paths with this dude.

I don't know how people do it...I watched Saw and was so disturbed by it that I knew then and there even if sequels came out, I would be skipping them for sure.  My roomie and gf Lori have a tradition of watching the new Saw films whenever they come out.  I have to hand it to them, the films are gross and their ability to watch them year after year, is impressive.

I remember back in 1996 I went on a date with this really cute guy who worked at the gym and he took me to see Scream (Dimension Collector's Series).  I remember loving the film but being absolutely terrified watching it.  It had been snowing outside and when my date opened my door and shut it to his car a pile of snow came down from the top onto the windshield and scared the bejesus out of me.  I screamed so loud and my heart raced so fast it was a bit embarrassing.

Scream broke all the rules at the beginning (hello, Drew Barrymore) and kept me on the edge of my seat.  I am really excited for Scream 4 to come out!

Oh Kevin Spacey...you are a bad, bad, man.  Seven (Single Disc Edition) is another movie that just gives me the willies.  The crime scenes are brutal and the ending...oy.

After watching all those disgusting films that scare the crap out of me, it is nice to settle down with a movie that is scary but also quite hilarious.  Shaun of the Dead is my go to film for every Halloween (planning to watch it this week).  I have a seriously weird celebrity crush on Simon Pegg and love the dynamic between him and Nick Frost.  Shaun of the Dead plays up all the zombie cliches and also has that dry British humor that I enjoy so much.  If you haven't seen it already I highly recommend it!

I think Zombie horror flicks are the most interesting of them all, which has me thinking I will be checking out AMC's new show The Walking Dead premiering appropriately on Halloween.

Which has me dying to know...what's your favorite scary movie?
