Forever Frugal Friday
Forever Frugal Friday's have been on hiatus for awhile, but I am excited to share today's fabulous find!
I love a good black dress and this Heart Print Dress would be perfect for the upcoming holidays or a girls night out. It is sweet with the little hearts and also a little naughty with the sheerness at the top and keyhole button back. The dress is part of the Rory Beca collection currently at Forever. There are some great pieces in the collection and while I am still looking forward to Thanksgiving and in no rush to head into Christmas, I will say I am excited for all the holiday collections that are beginning to emerge.
Regardless of the upcoming holidays, this dress is sure to be in style anytime of the year.

Desperately Seeking Sully ~ Orange Crush
As I look at the window and am greeted with fog, it has suddenly dawned on me that fall has arrived and with fall comes new scents, flavors and a color palette. And since we are in the month of October (and I did just return from Amsterdam where the color of the country is orange) I decided I should really try to incorporate the color that I despise so much into my wardrobe.

I think the easiest way to incorporate orange for me would be in accessories. Accessories allow you the luxury of being bold and bright without being too trendy or over the top. I am loving all these varieties of orange goodies but am most definitely favoring the iPhone cover, as I am about to make the switch from blackberry to iPhone. It's a little bit edgy, fun, punk and perfect to set me apart from other iPhone users.

While the easy and safe route would be accessories, I would like to own one orange staple item. However my fair skin and light hair are not complimented by orange. So the trick is to find the right orange for you! For me, I veer towards the coral and the red-orange options. But if you are gonna go full out orange a scarf or shoes would be another great choice.
This fall I am really going to try face my fear of looking like a pumpkin and try out this orange trend. With options like the ones above I am pretty sure I can't go wrong! What are your thoughts on orange?
Gung-ho or steer clear?

Summer Essentials Series ~ Lynnie's Life
Today's summer essentials comes from the sweet and new proud mama by Lynn from Lynnie's Life. I first met Lynn in college and let me just say this gal is the epitome of fun. She is always game for whatever and will never let a wine bar, or a table interfere with singing Mariah Carey's ""All I Want for Christmas Is You" at the top of her lungs. She is also a wonderful new mommy to Kyler and I just adore this woman oh so much!
*What one item can you not be without this summer?*
Watermelon and stretch cream lotion (I want to be able to sport a swimsuit again).
*What are you craving for summer 2011?*
Sun and cute maxi dresses. They make me feel pretty while being a swollen mess :)
*What is your essential summer song for 2011?*
I am loving OAR right now! (I chose "That Was A Crazy Game Of Poker" as it reminds me of good old WSU - too many memories to this song).
Thank you Lynne for taking time out of your busy new life with little baby Ky and sharing your summer pics! I can't wait to meet that little buddy at Christmas time!

GIRLS HAIR STYLES 2011
Hairstyles for preteens are usually a little more advanced than their grade school counterparts, but not quite as complicated as those of the high school set. Also, many girls in this age bracket may still need a little help achieving the ideal style, and will need something comparatively simple to maintain. Of course, these attributes will help mom, too!
A staple of elementary school hair is the side part. To add some flair to this style, simply divide the side part into three sections. These sections do not have to be equal. Secure each section back in a slightly imbrication fashion with butterfly clips. This will give the part a messy, yet secure, look.
Another simple and easy look, which works well with bangs, is to pull the hair into loose pigtails at the base of the neck. These pigtails should be located toward the back instead of the side. Then, place a sparkly or fabric covered headband on top for a fun splash of color. Even if some shorter hair works its way free from the loose pigtails, the headband will keep the hair back from the face, adding to the carefree look.
If a girl is looking for something a little sleeker but still fun, the braided ponytail is a good option. For this style girls with curly hair may want to straighten their hair first, to make the hair easier to braid. This style can work with a side part or a middle part, depending on your preference. On one side, begin to braid your hair in small sections, start at the part and continuing down the length of the hair. Do the same on the other side as well. It power be necessary to secure the first braid with a ponytail holder or clip while braid the other side. If doing a middle part, pull the remaining hair into a low ponytail astatine the back of your head, toward the nape of the neck. If doing a side part, pull hair into a side ponytail on the same side of your largest part, again keeping low to the neck. Secure with a ponytail holder, sooner one that matches your hair color.
Finally, at this age many girls may decide that they are done with long hair and want to choose for a short hairstyle. This by no means limits the options for a variety of hairstyles. With short hairstyles, hair products will be key in styling. Using a strong pomade can allow girls to have a spiky, punk style. Pommade should be used on dry hair, allowing for a “sculpted effect,” molding the shape of the style.
Curly hair can also work well with short hair, and a good hair gel for curly hair should be used. This should be applied on damp hair while scrunching the curls with your fingertips. Hair bands, which resemble large ponytail holders, can work to add an element of style to short, curly hair. A girl can use one of these, placed toward the forehead, to give the illusion of bangs, or can use multiple hair bands, even dissimilar colors, moving in gaps toward the back of the head to add dimension. Good luck and have fun!

Summer Essentials Series ~ Lovely Happenings
Today's fabulous collection is brought to you by the darling Megan from Lovely Happenings. Megan is always so cheery, fun, light and stylish and always sharing items that I absolutely must have! This girl holds a special place in my heart with her appreciation of WSU (her sister goes there) and you can't help but leave her blog in a better mood after you visit it. So without further ado...
Hello, Yellow Brick Blog readers! I am Megan from LovelyHappenings and I am so happy Lyndsy asked me to help out with my Summer Essentials of 2011. I long for the sunny, dry weather in the summer. Portland's rain can get really painful after a while. I take advantage of the sun while I can and these are my essentials this summer... What one item can you not be without this summer?

My maxi dress! At first, I wasn't sure about this trend and how it'd look on me. So I bought a simple, olive-green racer back maxi dress from Forever21 to see how I liked it (sadly, my particular one is no longer available). I can basically say that I am obsessed with my maxi dress now. I need more for my collection! If you haven't tried this trend yet then I suggest you get your little rear end to the store. Casual, totally chic and awesome for a great summer look.

What are you craving for summer 2011?
A longer summer! Does that count? No, I'd just really like more time away from work and time with my boyfriend instead. I want to go camping, go on bike rides, walk to the farmers market, concerts outside, BBQ, eat loads of gelato, and trips to the coast with my boy.
What is your essential summer song of 2011? Well, I can always listen to a John Mayer or Dave Matthews Band song but this year, Mat Kearney is stealing the show. His new album, Young Love, is awesome. The single "Hey Mama" totally puts a smile on my face and I can't help but rock out to this song. Enjoy!
