Song Of The Week: Sleep Paralysist

Last spring I downloaded a great remix from Refinery 29 and there was this one song on it that I just adored and loved but had no idea who sang it since it was a continuous mix.  Fast forward almost a year when I downloaded the Summer Sampler from Itunes and one of the songs was Sleep Paralysist by Neon Indian.  The very song that I had loved!

The song is upbeat and yet relaxing and just perfect for these spring and summer months when the sun is shining and you need a little pick me up.  As a bonus if you click here you can download the song free!  It doesn't get much better than that!

As one who didn't get much sleep this weekend, I am fully looking forward to my 80 minute massage at Burke Williams Spa today with my birthday girl Christy!

Happy 30th Christy !!

Song of the Week: Young Blood

Loving most things free, I always make sure to download the free song of the week on Itunes and also the free download of the week at Sbux (currently Rumour Has It by Adele - go get it!).  I had downloaded a bunch of new music this past week and listened to the "Recently Added" playlist on my IPod and heard this winner Young Blood, by The Naked And Famous (love their name) and was instantly grooving in my car and listening to the song on repeat.

At first I thought it was Passion Pit which had me scratching my head a bit, since I didn't think they had anything new out.  Turns out it is a band The Naked And Famous and if they keep turning out tunes like Young Blood I think they are sure to have to gain many fans.

They are a little bit Passion Pit, with a little MGMT and a touch/sprinkle of Phoenix/Foster the People.  Which adds up to pure excellence in my book.  Their show here in LA sold out but check here to see if they are coming to a city near you...Seattle ladies they will be at the Showbox at the Market on Monday the 11th!

Song Of The Week: Whip My Hair {Cover}

I pride myself in enjoying almost all genres of music.  The only music I tend to avoid of not listen to is heavy metal.  I mean every once in a while you can find me jamming out to some Metallica, but that's about as hard as I get...until I heard this spectacular cover of Willow Smith's Whip My Hair by Skull Tape.

I was not a fan of the original song and it drove me crazy whenever I heard it on the radio, this version however, kicks major ass and totally has me wanting to whip my hair back and forth in the car listening.  The song at moments is a little hardcore and not for all but then at different times mellow and quite lovely.

You can download the song free here and get to whipping your hair back and forth as soon as possible.

Song Of The Week: Pursuit of Happiness {Cover}

Do you ever find a cover of a song by a totally different artist and re-fall in love with a song?

Thanks to a certain boy by the name of B, I did just that this weekend.

Kid Cudi is on of my favorite rappers out there right now, and when Pursuit Of Happiness (Nightmare) [Explicit] first came out I was listening to the song nonstop.  As you can imagine, new music came out and that song was left in the past...until I heard Lissie's version of the same song.

This Lissie girl pretty much kicks ass.  She sounds amazing live, plays the guitar and can take a swig straight from a bottle of Jose???  Kick ass.  Want to know what is even more kick ass...you can download this weeks song FREE (yep you read that right) here

Who's happy now?

Oh, and I think it is time for another month dedicated to cover songs.  Be sure to check back next week!

Beauty Giveaway! Enter to win an Apothica $25 Gift Card!

Ever since I was little, I have always been obsessed with beauty products. I believe my mother played a big role in my obsession and she was also the one to introduce me to Smashbox Cosmetics.

I love Smashbox! Their products are high quality and always leave me feeling my most beautiful. Some of my favorite Smashbox staples are:

It provides wonderful coverage and leaves my skin glowing and dewy. My favorite feature of this loose powder is that you just shave off a little every time you use it, eliminating the mess and waste often associated with loose powders.

Most people are not aware that good brushes really make a big difference in make-up application. I use the Face and Body Brush #19 with the Halo Hydrating Powder and am left with almost perfect looking skin. The brush is oh so soft and provides the best coverage possible.

I received this little gem from Mrs. Reynolds and I have to say it is a great little item to carry in your purse. Not only does it give your cheeks a beautiful healthy pink glow, but I use it on my lips and throw on a clear gloss and then I have pretty pink lips to match. Love items that you can get double duty out of.

Brooklyn We Go Hard, We Go Hard...

Every year around February I picked up that coveted Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Issue and use the photos inside as inspiration for my summer bod.  This years cover model, was the adorable Brooklyn Decker (Andy Roddick's wife) sporting bright yellow bikini bottoms, layered necklaces, perfect beach blonde hair and not much else.

So for the past few months I have been staring at this cover hoping it will encourage me to get my butt to the gym, which sadly was not enough.  However, my girl Spry arriving in town for Memorial Weekend poolside in Santa Monica was a bit of a reality check and kicked my fitness regimen into gear.

I checked out my trusty On-Demand Exercise TV options and found a tab labeled "Bikini Revolution", um yes please.  After a little more research I found that all four workouts available featured the beautiful Brooklyn Decker.  The girl who looks like this in a bikini....

Clearly a girl with a body like that has got to be doing something right that I need to be partaking in?  And so began my trial session of Elle's Make Better Workout Collection, which promised to give me a better bikini body in just 21 days (following their schedule).

Below is a review of the 4 different workouts I tried out using a scale of 1-5 (1 = couch potato, 5= come on let's sweat).  I must disclose that I used the On-Demand versions which are shorter than the DVD workouts, so my opinion could be a little skewed due to that.

Two days ago I dragged my butt out of bed at 6:15 AM and made myself do the 20 minute Elle Make Better Series: Elle Workout Yoga.  While the workout felt great because it was a lot of stretching I just didn't feel like it was really that challenging.  I am not very skilled in yoga (working on it) but found this workout was very catered towards beginners.  I did feel energized and great at the end but barely broke a sweat.
Rating: 2.5

I tested out both of the Elle Make Better Series: Elle Cardio Body workouts and let me just say that I was most definitely feeling it.  The workouts were 25 minutes long and you are constantly moving and in action which made me feel like I was really getting a good workout.  The workouts were part cardio, part weigh lifting and a whole bunch of jump roping (yuck).  My only complaint was that the trainer was a little (okay a lot) on the annoying side.  She said the same thing over and over again and it kind of drove me batty.  However I plan to add one of the cardio workouts to my weekly series as it really did give me a good cardio workout.
Rating: 4

I finally finished my workout analysis yesterday with one of the two Elle Make Better Series: Elle Beauty Sculpt workouts and have to say that this one was by far my favorite.  It was fast paced, had a little cardio, some lunges, and a little bit of free weights.  The trainer was enthusiastic without being overbearing and like all the other workouts, Brooklyn is there with her hot bod doing the exercises with you and what's refreshing is she wobbles a little sometimes and also gets corrected by the trainer a few time which makes you feel like she is human!  By the end of the 25 minutes I was winded and red as a tomato.
Rating: 4.5

I think I will incorporate one of her cardio blasts and one of her body sculpt sessions into my weekly routine The videos are rooftop in what I am guessing is NYC, Brooklyn's workout outfits are pretty cute and the music isn't too bad either.  I think they are great options to add to your regimen if you are feeling a little stuck or in a rut.  Who knows, by following their routine,  maybe you'll be wanting to wear your little polka dot bikini in just 21 Days!

Get Your SBux On

The days and months leading up to April 15th are usually full of stress and disgust, due to that dreaded little thing....

But luckily, you have a whole 'nother year before you have to think about them again! That calls for a celebration right?

Well my friends, the kind folks at Starbucks are hoping to provide a little relief not only to you, but also to our environment.

Head into your local Sbux with a reusable coffee mug and receive a free cup of drip. I took my new mug that I received from my Easter Bunny roomie Lindsay from Old Navy and collected my free cup of Pike Place Brew and a slice of the Reduced Fat Berry Coffee Cake. I added a little soy milk and a dash of cinnamon to my coffee and let me just say it is heaven in a mug.

I will admit it. I love my Sbux. I love my white cup with the green logo. What I love more however, is keeping some extra change in my pocket and not being so wasteful. Every time you bring in your own reusable travel mug, Starbucks will give you 10 cents off your drink of choice. You gotta feel good about that!

I found some cute and reasonably priced reusable mugs that are yours for the purchasing. I have 3 travel mugs that I rotate use of and I'm telling you, it really makes my coffee taste better, and it keeps it hotter longer.

Similar to the one I am drinking from today and perhaps the most popular (it really looks like a cup from your favorite coffee shop), is the I'm Not A Paper Cup porcelain cup. It's simple, no frills, no gimmicks, just a coffee cup you can use again and again.

I personally heart this Hot Pink Porcelain Friendly Reusable Coffee Silicone cup. It's bright and cheery and perfect for coffee or tea! As an added bonus it has the sleeve that keeps your hand from getting too hot or your drink from slipping. Brilliant!

I love the design and added features of Australian brand Keep Cup. The sleeve to help you keep a grip on your coffee, the movable plug that prevents your drink from splashing all over the place and the three size options to ensure you have just the right amount of coffee or tea. Plus they are available in a variety of color combinations so that you can coordinate with your car, outfit, office, whatever.

So go ahead, drop the $10-$20 for the mug and then put it to good use. Helping the environment and saving a little dough will make that morning cup of joe (or tea) all the more enjoyable!

Song Of The Week: Blame It On The Pop

I was a little behind reading my Entertainment Weekly and discovered this amazing and totally FREE download Blame It On The Pop by DJ Earworm (weird name, talented guy) as their #1 pick for the week.

It perfectly sums up the kick ass songs of 2009 and gets me motivated for my 2010 resolution to get in shape at the gym. While on the website I downloaded some other great mashups and so far I am NOT disappointed!

Blame it on whatever, but free music that rocks is just marvelous to me!

Free Coffee!!!

Gotta love free coffee! Sadly, this applies to only residents of CA and AZ...but if you live in either of these states go pick up your free 12 oz Instant Karma Ice Blended today from 3-7 PM at your local Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Normally I am not an ice blended coffee drinker (and am a Sbux loyal) but at a price tag of free, who am I to exlude? Cheers!
