2011 MET Ball Fashion

The MET Ball was last night and while there were some gorgeous dresses, I wasn't overly impressed with any of the fashion choices sadly.  In fact, I feel there were more poor fashion choices then good ones.  But in an effort to keep things positive, let's focus on the winners from last night...

Sheer Nice Seeing You

Although I tend to appreciate the bright and bold dresses over the neutrals the combination of sheer fabric, and sparkle is always dynamic as these lovely ladies displayed to all.

Ashley Greene was flawless in Donna Karan

The always incredible Diane Kruger threw a little drama to her sheerness in Jason Wu.

Although I am not loving her new red locks (i mean she is still drop dead - duh) I am loving every single thing about this Chanel Haute Couture gown.  She looks like a goddess!

Brilliant & Bold

Michael Kors has me crushing again with his neon pink designs, this time on Brooklyn Decker who is radiant in the simple gown.

My favorite look head to toe goes to Miss Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop.  The color is amazing and her accessorizing spot on.  Perfection.

I have thought Liv Tyler was drop dead gorgeous since the Crazy video and some 17 years later she is even more beautiful and I love lightness and springy feeling of this Givenchy Haute Couture gown.

Am I the only one who is loving Gwyenth recent reemergence into the spotlight?  I mean I know she has always been a fix in the fashion world, but the girl just keeps getting better with age and her fashion choices.  For example, clearly winning in this Stella McCartney gown.

What in the World???

was Freida Pinto thinking when she selected this Chanel Haute Couture gown?  I mean I know she was thinking, it's CHANEL, but....

was Fergie trying to replicate the much loved royal wedding look of long sleeve lace?  If so, she should leave it to the Duchess of Cambridge to own that look because she looks like a hot mess in this Marchesa gown.

Mary Kate, we get it.  Your are a bohemian queen, but this vintage Givenchy is too big and a bohemian mess.

Hey Rashida, you are a little late to prom.  I would have killed for this Stella McCartney dress for my prom in 1998.  However I am sure the attendees for prom 2011 will expect to see their mothers or chaperone's in this gown instead.

What were your thoughts on the MET Ball?  Any looks that you were head over heels for?  Any that you found revolting?

Girl Crush ~ Blake Lively

{click photos to enlarge}

Am I the only one out there who has a major girl crush on Blake Lively?  Ever since she first appeared on Gossip Girl I have been blown away by her beauty, smile and fashion.  I constantly see photos of her smiling or laughing which leads me to believe that she is a sweet and personable gal off set and in real life.

Her red carpet fashion has put her on a few of the best dressed lists and who can blame the critics.  The girl has a killer body and wears clothes so well!  Perhaps that is why she was signed as the new face of Chanel...Her fashion choices are always a little edgy, straight off the runway and yet she gets it right almost every time.  Can we also just agree that she has the red carpet pose down to a T?

Whether she is smiling, smirking or pouting her makeup and hair is always flawless. Never overdone, and always breathtaking - her features in magazines always have me buying the mag to check out the spread.  Blake is a little bit California Girl, Bohemian Goddess and old Hollywood glamour.

Can we also please address her ridiculously incredible wardrobe on Gossip Girl?  I mean Serena's character can drive me a little batty sometimes but her fashion always has me swooning. I love the dynamic between Serena and Blair and am always looking forward to what love triangle Serena will get herself into next and what fabulous designer she'll be wearing next.  Not since Sex and the City have I coveted a characters wardrobe as much.

Blake's most recent role as Krista, Jeremy Renner's drug addicted sister in The Town earned her some well deserved attention and is sure to help her become a staple in Hollywood.  I for one cannot wait to see what else this beauty has up her sleeves, and most importantly, who designed those sleeves...

Red Carpet Rundown ~ Emmy Awards 2010

I was really looking forward to the Emmy Red Carpet yesterday, after watching Rachel Zoe's mad dash to find Oscar dresses on the Rachel Zoe Project.  I couldn't wait to see the amazing gowns, colors, makeup, accessories and hair styles.  Sadly, the selections this year were mostly dismal and boring to me.  There were a few standouts of course, but mostly I was just left feeling "meh" when the Red Carpet was over.

Winners:

Thank goodness these beautiful shimmering ladies came out to play last night.  Connie Britton in custom Burberry, winner Claire Danes in Armani Prive and Jennifer Carpenter in Oday Shakar all dazzled the hell out everyone on the red carpet.  The dresses were perfectly fitted and showed off these beauties figures and couldn't be missed wherever they went.

On the Fence:

Jeff Vespa

I was anxiously anticipating January Jones arrival, after her show stopping Atelier Versace dress last year....my first reaction when I saw her was just kind of stumped.  I loved the color and the detailing but just couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it.  When I watched the show and they scanned over the audience with her in the front row, I got a little nervous we might see a little of her "britney"  with the cut of the dress.  However, after looking at it again today and seeing all the incredible detail on this dress, I think I do like it.  Not love it (like I love her date she brought, Mr. Jason Sudeikis) but definitely like it.

Worst Dressed:

Jeff Vespa/Jason Merritt

These two ladies dresses just left me scrunching my nose in disgust.  The drapery of both dresses is just not flattering at all.  Lauren Graham's Yigal AzrouĆ«l dress had such a funky top.  The draping looked so sloppy and made her appear frumpy and dumpy.  Newlywed Anna Paquin disappointed in Alexander McQueen, with the bizarre hem and overly embellished top.  It made her look squaty and heavy.

Jason Merritt/Frazer Harrison

Where do I even begin with these two incredibly talented actresses?  Mindy Kaling and Naya Rivera looked like they had just arrived at Prom 2010 with their massive dresses and over the top hair.  I can't find who designed Mindy's dress, but the combination of the fullness of the dress in addition to her high updo just had me grimacing.  And Naya Rivera....you are absolutely gorgeous in every single way and this is the dress you chose?  It looks like a very, very, bad prom dress or bridesmaid dress.  The color is gorgeous, but the leg slit, and ruching and fluffy hair is just not working for you.  Please come back for the Golden Globes in something stunning!

What were your favorite looks?  What did you think of January Jones dress?  Who had your least favorite look?  What winner were you most excited for?

Red Carpet Rundown ~ Teen Choice Awards 2010

While I didn't tune in for the entire show (just for the Jason Derulo and Justin Bieber performances), I did check out the red carpet, and to be quite honest I was pretty bored with all the fashion.  There weren't really any standout looks (perhaps because of the casual-ness of the event and the age its geared towards) but below are some of my fave and least fave looks.

I though Jenna Dewan looked gorgeous in this off the shoulder black dress and black heels.  The pearls are a great accent piece and she looks fun and sassy without looking slutty or overly trendy.

Although I am not a fan of Megan Fox I will say that I thought she looked really cute last night.  I loved the skirt and heels and thought the top brought a little youth to what could have been a super sexy, slinky number.

I hope that I am not the only one tuned into ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars.  I have been hooked since episode one and the girls showed up at the Teen Choice Awards looking like bonafide stars.  While I loved all four of their looks my favorite look for the whole red carpet was Lucy Hale.

Her makeup, her hair, that dress!  Just perfection.  I am thinking she could be the next Rachel Bilson...

Some of my not so favorite looks:

Lea Michelle is completely gorgeous but I feel as though those shoes are just too heavy and clunky and her pose here is just throwing me all off.  I will say that her makeup for the evening was pretty glamorous and gorgeous!  Lea is usually always on and one of my favorites for any red carpet, this time I was just left feeling - ehhh.

The darling and fresh faced Emma Roberts looked as if she had just walked off the set of Twilight.  The makeup, dark hair and pale skin was just too much.  She looks like she hasn't slept in weeks and is thaleeepy.

What the Teen Choice Awards did get me excited for is the August 29th Emmy Awards.  More beautiful fashion, just around the corner - Yay!

Sex And The City 2 Premiere Red Carpet

I am pretty sure every girl everywhere is anxiously counting down the days/hours until the release of the new SATC movie. I am also one of them and plan to see it very late and a couple of cocktails deep with some girlfriends on Friday night.

Some lucky peeps in NYC got to attend the premiere last night, and while the red carpet looks could have been a little more daring and fun, my girl SJP did not disappoint (and I am pretty sure Carrie would not have complained either) with her stunning neon yellow Valentino gown.

The color, the draping the flow of it all.  Absolutely breathtaking!

Her hair color is perfect for summer, the loose waves are sexy and gorgeous and her makeup is perfection!

Kristin Davis looked every bit her character of Charlotte in this bold pink vintage Jean Desses.  I adore the color but would have liked to see her with her hair different or something to make her stand out a bit more.

I liked where Kim Catrall was headed with this Naeem Khan "Old Hollywood" glamour but it just didn't really work that well for me.  Perhaps if she had more of (spray) tan or the color was a little less muted.

Cynthia Nixon wowed me in her fitted Caroline Herrera number.  Yes it was plain, but it fit her perfectly and combined with her simple hair (loving the color and cut) and glowing makeup, she really had the whole package going for her.

Jennifer Love Hewitt showed off her hot bod and tan in a Herve Leger bandage dress.  However, she wore an almost identical dress not too long ago.  Carrie Bradshaw wouldn't be too pleased.

I think Carrie Bradshaw would have given Whitney Port two thumbs way up for her Moschino dress and black booties.  Loved everything from her head to her toes!

Candace Bushnell may be able to create one hell of series that everyone is addicted to, but she seems to be lacking in the putting together an incredible ensemble for a huge premiere look.  Blech.

I am pretty sure nobody will be knocking on Suzanne Somers door to borrow this tacky number.  Her legs look great but this dress is just a big mess.

Are any of you attending a midnight showing tomorrow of the movie?  Will you be waiting to see it over Memorial Day Weekend or just ignoring the crowds all together and wait for it to come out on DVD?
